Get the best of both worlds — the larger, flavorful nuts with some American chestnut genetics and the disease resistance and productivity of the Chinese chestnut — a Midwest Memory tree proven to handle Midwest conditions.

These hybrid seedlings are Dunstan-like descendants, the mother trees open pollinated with Revival, Peach, Dunstan, and other Chinese varieties planted around them.

They were grown from locally gathered seed right here in NE Kansas, giving them built-in regional adaptation before they ever go in the ground. They also feature late bud break, meaning they’re better equipped to handle our late spring frosts that can devastate early-leafing trees.

Why this tree:
Produces medium to large nuts — bigger than most Chinese varieties
Late-dropping variety — nuts fall in late September through October in Kansas

Pollination: You’ll need at least two chestnut trees for cross-pollination and nut production. These mix well with Chinese chestnuts in an orchard setting.
